Louise Slaughter Receives NACHC 2014 Distinguished Community Health Advocate Award from Regional Primary Care Network

ROCHESTER, NY – Today, Regional Primary Care Network (RPCN) honored Congresswoman Louise M. Slaughter (D-NY) with the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) 2014 Distinguished Community Health Advocate Award for her continued support of Community Health Centers and her commitment to improving access to quality, affordable primary health care for the uninsured and underserved population in the Greater Rochester area. Earlier this term, Rep. Slaughter announced a $2.5 million grant for RPCN to provide health care in addition to $180,000 in federal money to help local residents sign up for affordable healthcare coverage under the Affordable Care Act.

“I’m honored to receive this award – but it is the people that make up these institutions who deserve the lion’s share of the praise,” Rep. Slaughter said. “Day in and day out, they embody our commitment to affordable health care for every American. They have worked tirelessly to provide our friends and neighbors with critical health care in times of real need. I’m proud to support their efforts in Congress and as long as I have a vote, I will continue to do so.”

“Congresswoman Slaughter’s longstanding support of community health centers is well known and greatly appreciated by our patients, Board and staff,” said Michael Leary, President and CEO of Regional Primary Care Network. “We look forward to working with her and her staff as future health center funding comes before the Congress. RPCN thanks the Congresswoman for her support and guidance in this challenging budgetary environment.

Regional Primary Care Network is committed to the mission of providing access to compassionate, individualized health care and wellness-related education for everyone, regardless of financial, cultural, or social barriers. It is the vision of RPCN to create healthy communities in which health disparities are diminished and there is access to care for all.

“Congresswoman Slaughter’s tireless advocacy has played a direct role in our ability to provide exceptional comprehensive care to the underserved patients of our region,” said Bridgette Wiefling, MD, senior vice president of medical groups for Rochester Regional Health System. “We are enormously grateful for her support of Federally Qualified Health Centers, and for her commitment – shared by all of us at Rochester Regional Health System – to ensure that every member of our community enjoys a lifetime of good health.”
